The Delhi government on Thursday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the oath of office on the National Day of the Nation, becoming the country’s youngest prime minister.
The oath ceremony was delayed by two days after Prime Minister Shah, the son of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was injured in a car accident on Thursday.
The ceremony was also delayed for the first time in three decades when Shah was injured when he tried to avoid an attack by an angry mob.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on a grand scale and was attended by hundreds of people, including some of the leaders of the opposition Congress Party, which has accused the government of mismanaging the economy.
India’s first Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, was also sworn in by the then Prime Minister at the end of the previous decade.
